Welcome to the 'Greenall-ODell Studio', an online gallery showing the work of the artists David Greenall and Ruth ODell. The paintings shown in the gallery reflect 20 years of continually updated working practice.
The work of David Greenall and Ruth ODell will need little introduction, both having a reputation in the Artworld for work of high quality.
The majority of the work produced by Greenall and ODell is created using handmade colour from pigments, eggs, resins, oil and waxes, their finished work being recognised for its vibrant colour and strong draughtsmanship. This has established their reputation and added their work to public and private collections throughout the world.
The house and studio are situated in the village of South Dell on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles of Scotland. Greenall and ODell, who met whilst studying at Winchester School of Art, moved to Lewis in 1991, and have been producing and exhibiting work from the Hebridean landscape and community since that time.
Visitors are welcome to the house and gallery but, owing to working times and limited space, it is advisable to telephone or email to arrange a visit.

Couple's cutting-edge art REVIEW
by Roddy Phillips
THERE is an almost tangible resonance to the new exhibition at the Riverside Gallery in Stonehaven, and an almost voyeuristic undertone.
This is an extremely autobiographical show by husband-and-wife artists David Greenall and Ruth O'Dell.
The couple live in Lewis with their young family and their works record both the landscapes and elements that surround them and the everyday incidents and labours of life in a small tightly knit community. Their works are also highly complementary. While David employs vivid colour in his rich, juicy landscapes, which are almost completely devoid of any human presence, Ruth's work is full of figures and has the atmosphere and the palette of freshly dug peat. In fact, cutting peat features in many of her works. Both are excellent draughtsmen, capturing the essence of a boat or a stream with the simplest of marks and both are reoccupied with a sense of moment and place.
Giving each artist a single room was a good move. As small collections these beautiful works are distinguished by an immediacy that is absolutely riveting and more importantly, refreshingly honest.
